What It Was!
The July Club trip was a camping trip to Snowy Range. A little mid-summer R&R is good for the soul. No news, no radio, no TV. Nothing to ruin a perfect weekend in the mountains. We couldn’t have dialed in any better weather and the full moon was a definite bonus!

I was reminded on this weekend of the special uniqueness of RC4W. We have a large group of like-minded people who, at any given time, in or outside of Club activities, can get together and have a good time. RC4W is like “Activity Central”! A ready supply of willing enthusiasts! There can be 2 people show up or 102, it doesn’t matter. “Fun” is on the agenda for WHOEVER shows up! It’s kind of like a “Family” reunion every time! And the incredible fact is, it’s been that way for 32 years! I think our “Formula” must work! This time we were competing with summer schedules, high gas prices and Cheyenne Frontier Days!

George and Jennifer Brook, George’s friend Pat and his boy Peyton from Indiana, Marlon and Christina Seals and Gwynn and I made up the fun-seeking bunch on this trip. We got to Cinnebar Park on Thursday afternoon just ahead of George. That night was the first of 4 campfire nights and they were all as perfect a campfire as was possible. Balmy temps, NO wind and NO smoke. The fires went straight up to the FULL moon each night!

On Friday George had to go into Laramie to work and Gwynn and I went exploring in the Jeep. Pat, Jennifer, Peyton and the dogs went hiking. On the way back to camp we ran across George, Marlon and Christina heading in. On Friday night, under a full moon, we cruised down to the Albany Lodge for dinner. We had a great time and even got the other patrons to take our pictures!

Friday night’s campfire went into the wee hours and produced yet another “Cinnebar Park Memory”, the Coors-fueled “Pepper Stick” ! You had to be there! It was the “Hot Shot” of hot shots! A “double” hot shot, you might say! Hey, you can’t fix “Stupid”……..but you CAN make it fun!

On Saturday George took Pat and Peyton to Denver to the airport and Marlon and Christina, and Gwynn and I went for a Jeep cruise. We went up through Nelson Park and stopped at the old cabins to clown around for awhile. We then went on up over Libby Flats to Hwy 130 and on to Lake Marie for some sightseeing and more clowning around. Since it was late in the day we decided to do dinner in Centennial so we cruised on down the highway. 2 flamed Jeeps, 88 inches of tire, and 1100 horsepower sitting in front of the Bear Tree Tavern on band night in Centennial, Wyoming WILL draw a crowd! We had fun and didn’t turn a hub all day…….until we got back to camp via Centennial Ridge.

Yes, the monster snow drifts at Cinnebar Park are STILL there! So, boys being boys, we had to play! George was also back by then with his Jeep. The drifts were down to about 12-15 ft. but were still a hoot! This time though, there was mud to go with the snow. We played until we were REALLY dirty! The coolest part was we were only 50 ft. from camp!

The Saturday night campfire was another tough one to take. Warm, full moon, starlit sky, perfect campfire, cold beer and chilled whiskey!

Sunday was a lazy day as George and Marlon packed up and headed home. Gwynn and I went into Centennial for supplies and then got in some good fishing on the way back to camp. Sunday night we had another awesome campfire. We were once again joined by our friend, Jim Beam, and all was well with the world and fun was had by “All”!

Happy Trails,
Rod
