It was a beautiful day at
the dunes for the annual
snow run, the sun was
shining and we had a good
turnout of rigs. Rod
Pepper, Dewey Williams,
Howard Segal, Brian
Kubal, John Stone, George
Brook, Paul Bickerton,
Taylor Olson, Aaron Lanz,
Sean Murphy, Lenny Golding, and new member Andy Heyd all
showed up with their rigs. Guest Darrell Sharman even made the
trip from Lodgepole Nebraska. Way to go Darrell. I rode with Andy
while Paul and Dewey gave Crawl magazine photographer Tim Magee
rides most of the day.
Tim, Andy, and myself got
there early and were
rewarded with the sight
of two Moose in the field
not 50 yards away. Tim
had a chance to take a few
pics because I had gotten
my truck stuck in the snow
with Andy’s Samurai on
the trailer….. John Stone
made the trip but couldn’t get the big red Bronc off the trailer
because of starter issues, very unfortunate. Very shortly into the
day Aaron’s Sammi had troubles and he had to put it on the trailer. What a string of luck he’s
had this season….. He hitched a ride with Paul after that.
The group got unloaded and headed out and some of us got behind some other people that were
having trouble so we headed around to the south entrance. We found what looked to be a good
way in right by the drag hills but got buried instead. Luckily Dewey and Paul were there to help
us out. As people started playing Howard busted his long side axle joint for the first time in like ten years. Andy and I helped him get it changed
out; well it was more like we kept him company while
he changed out the shaft. It’s the thought that
counts right?
Once out on the main dunes everyone was playing;
Sean was tearing up Deadman (the hard route) in
that CJ-5 that sounded like a cage of angry pitbulls.
Rod, Paul, Darrell, and George headed off into the
woods to see how many holes they could poke in
their tops. Everyone got at least one hole from what
I heard. Andy and Taylor raced around like madmen in a game of follow the leader that had me
in stitches from laughing. When he got stuck, Taylor performed a beautiful front flip off the
hood of his Jeep into the snow! Oh, to be young again…. Meanwhile Tim took it all in with his
camera for the article in Crawl.

I had no intention of going on this trip, since the Bronc is still down, until Tim called and wanted
to do a shoot for the mag. Boy am I sure glad he called because it turned out to be one of those
trips that will be remembered for many years to come. Good times were had by all.
Till next time; and make sure you don’t believe
everything you hear………..
